My First Photo Contest
Oct 23rd, 2009 | By Admin | Category: Current Topics of InterestI finally decided to enter a photo contest and, of course, I picked a big one. I decided to go for the 2009 World Nomads Travel Photography Scholarship where the winner gets to go on an expedition to Antarctica with a National Geographic Photographer. Yes, instead of wading in the kiddie pool I decided to dive head first into the deep end. For this contest you had to enter 5 photos that told a them about a location you visited. Since I recently visited the national parks I decided to use photos taken from that trip. Here are my entries.
The two shots I am most proud of are Devils Tower and Badlands. Devils Tower was a really hard picture because I had to hold the cell phone perfectly still with the tower framed within the phone and manage to not get to much glare on the screen. I tried countless times until I finally got an acceptable shot. I had to be equally patient for the Badlands shot. It took me a while to line up the road with the parking lot and then I had to wait for the perfect opportunity. Even though I didn’t even come close to winning this contest (The Winners: http://journals.worldnomads.com/scholarships/post/36171.aspx) It was a really good learning experience and I look forward to taking more photos and entering contests in the future. For Christmas I will be traveling to Germany and I can’t wait to see what I capture with my camera.
