Cyber Salon

If you are curious about how my web page got started here is the story. Just over a year ago I wanted to increase my cyber space knowledge so I joined a high-tech group called Cyber Salon. It is a group of teachers who have one thing in common – the use of technology in teaching. We meet once a month at a location with WiFi, food, and beverage of choice. Becoming a member of this group has helped me to successfully jump onto the Web 2.0 bus and I have been enjoying the ride. I have learned to create a web page, upload videos and images, create social networks, and a lot more. As a result, I have added cool things into my instruction such as a social network called the GeoClub.
It is intimidating trying to learn it all on your own. But in a group everyone brings their knowledge together to create a collective understanding of teaching with technology. I am amazed at all the new things I learn since becoming a member. If you have a similar group in your area I highly suggest participating. Or, start a similar group with your friends.
The above picture was taken at CogDog’s House (http://cogdogblog.com/). Once a year he hosts a special slumber salon. We all drive out of the valley to Strawberry, Az for a 24 hour cyber salon. I have been up since 7:30 am with my Macbook on my lap. The video below is very rough, but gives you an idea of what cyber salon is like.

What is funny about this special cyber salon is that we left the valley yesterday and it was in the 70’s. When we got to CogDog’s I was surprised that everyone was in t-shirts. Strawberry sits at 6,000 feet and I was the only one who listened to the weather. They were predicting snow for this weekend. I told my cyber pals and they all laughed because the weather was beautiful in strawberry. Needless to say, we woke up to this:

Everyone says they will no longer doubt the “Future Astronaut”. What a compliment!
