Horseback Riding in Ometepe
Jan 2nd, 2009 | By Admin | Category: TravelHere is my accommodations in Ometepe, Nicaragua. We are on an island in the middle of lake Nicaragua. Lake Nicaragua is the largest fresh water lake in Central America. We will be staying here for two days.

I soon found out that we had a family of monkeys living in the forest right behind our accomodations. When I say family I mean at least 30 of them running around and I was really lucky to get some video of a mama monkey carrying her baby on her back.

I generally go horseback riding when ever i travel and this trip was no exception. I missed out on riding in Monteverde and that turned out to my advantage. When we arrived in Ometepe my options were to climb the volcano Concepcion or go riding. Once they told me about the nearly impossible 10 hour hike up Concepcion the choice became easy.

Later that night I shared the fish dinner with Verena. As you can see from the photo below it was a big meal but somehow Verena and I managed to munch our way through the big fish. The two smaller fishes got a couple of nibbles but weren’t as good as the big guy.

Hey, Sian! Looks like fun. Do the horses run or mostly just walk? Was that really a lake? Looked like part of the ocean!
