Dear Friends,
I got my interview with NASA. It is January 14-16. (BTW – I jumped up and down and ran all over my campus hugging my colleagues!) There is no way I could have done this alone. I want you to know that each one of you has had an impact on me and my life. I appreciate your support and couldn’t get through this amazing time without you. Thanks!

To my family,
You have supported me through all my endeavors with nothing but love and encouragement. It was hard after dad passed away but we stuck together and made it. Mom, you have been amazing through it all. I know he would be so proud of us. Thank you for all that you have given me. I often think back to when we were kids and how I tormented you guys (Langley, Robyn, & Chris) but, you still stuck up for me, and supported me, and smacked me around when I needed it. I couldn’t ask for a better set of siblings. Sincerely, your bratty little sister!

I don’t know how I am going to get through the next month and half. This is the most exciting thing that could ever happen to me and I want to thoroughly document every moment so please leave a comment below and if you have any advise I would love to hear it! Sian

Why does one want to walk wings? Why force one’s body from a plane just to make a parachute jump? Why should man want to fly at all? People often ask these questions. But what civilization was not founded on adventure, and how long could one exist without it? But what justifies the risk of life? Some answer the attainment of knowledge. Some say wealth, or power, is sufficient cause. I believe the risks I take are justified by the sheer love of the life I lead.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!
You will do it I know it! I already talked to Dr. L and she will do a mock interview. I am going to research how NASA does interviews. Once NASA meet you they will know you have to be part of their team. You are made for stars. I am so happy for you.

  2. Congratulations, Sian! Congratulations! Congratulations! We saw you last night at the ice rink and you didn’t mention this bit of news, your skates were always on the ice ~ we can’t be more happy for you ~ what an accompliment! We thank you for keeping us in tune and we await more good news. This is so exciting, thrilling, and “out of this world.”

Sian this is so cool!!! To even get an interview is unbelievable in itself!!!
The rest is just “gravy” as we in athletics say. Congrats and dont forget about us little people when you make it to the big time.

  7. Congratulations! I’m unbelievably proud of and excited for you! Thanks so much for keeping all of us “little people” in the loop. I have never met you but I am very glad for you and wish you all the best. I’m also a bit envious, OK more than a bit. Go get them! Best of luck.

    Chris

  23. Sian,

Your sense of adventure, courage, intelligence, education, flying experience, personality, physical stamina and generous heart are a perfect fit for the space program! What else could NASA ask for? I will be here as your cheerleader in Prescott when you go for the interview. It is truly a privilege to know you my dear friend.

    Dottie

  24. I am so proud of you! Even though I have yet to meet you in person, you are family. Gary keeps us updated! Let us know and I am sure you will make it! Lisa and Kate

  25. Congrats!! I’ve sent in my AME results and am keeping my fingers crossed to get the interview call as well. I’m working on the GN&C system for the new Orion vehicle at JSC, so if you have any free time while you’re here in January drop me a line and maybe I can show you around our division. We have a Shuttle fixed-base simulator that you may want to try!!

  26. Doc Proc-
We all loved meeting you! Keep those Warbirds in formation and we’re crossing our wings for you up here in Prescott, AZ on your NASA interview!

Hope to here some good news soon and keep first weekend of December 09 open for next Prescott Pilot Party. (Astronauts enter at NO CHARGE!) woo hoo!

Props To You (We’ll have to change that to “Rockets To You”)
    Guy Roginson, FlyPrescott.com

  27. Congratulations! I’m in the interview group just before yours (Jan 12-14) and I look forward to meeting you at the Wednesday social between the two groups. By the way, did you run into Jim LoPresto when you were at Edinboro? See you soon! -Chris

  28. Good luck this week and have a great time. Remember to eat healthy (small portions regularly) and get enough sleep. Little things like that will do wonders for letting your body support your mind in these exciting and stressful times. You will do great! You’re the best and they would be foolish not to take such a hard working, proven candidate.
