Photo of the Month: November
Nov 23rd, 2008 | By Admin | Category: PhotographyThis is a photo of a high altitude balloon with payloads from Arizona State, U of Arizona, Embry-Riddle, Pima C.C., and South Mountain C.C.. It is part of the Arizona Space Grant Consortium in association with NASA. We have a team of 6 students from South Mountain Community College. Their goal is to create a 1 pound payload that measures data such as temperature, pressure, etc. and takes pictures or video. Our package is the second from the bottom. It is an upside-down pyramid.
We successfully launched our payload but unfortunately when we went to retrieve the remains of the balloon our package was missing. It sheared off sometime during flight. Even though we lost our payload it was a good experience for the students. They learned about different systems, basic engineering, and teamwork. The next launch is in the spring. Check out last years spring launch under videos (that launch was successful and we got images from over 92,000 feet.)
